Shakespeare and the way he writes has always been confusing to the average 21st century American. But by watching actors preform his scripts, the things he says begin to make more sense. My old teacher once told me that to understand Shakespeare, you have to look at the big picture and not the little details. Once you know the gist of what is going on, the sonnets and phrases begin to make sense. I have always loved Shakespeare's plays, A Midsummer's Nights Dream especially. Some of my favorite things about Shakespeare is that he writes his plays so that people can connect with the characters, and he puts double meanings in his words, so his sonnets are almost like puzzles to solve.
Although Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, it is not one of my favorites. I don't like the character of Romeo at all. He is dreamy, whiny, and since he is fickle with Rosalie, why would he be any different with Juliet. I love the Character of Juliets nurse, for although she has the best intrest in heart, she botches everything up. All in all though, I am excited to read the play and to find out how my peers feel about it.
